The love of christ

Christian Brethren Community Services (CBCS) is a not-for-profit organisation specialising in the provision of accommodation and care in residential care and retirement living.  Established in 1976 by a group of people from NSW Christian Brethren churches (also known as the ‘Open Brethren’), the organisation today comprises three collocated retirement villages and residential care facilities:

CBCS’s Christian focus flows from our Vision which is from 2 Corinthians 5:14: “Christ’s love compels us…”.  The context is that Paul was writing to people in Corinth around 2,000 years ago and that 2 Corinthians 5:11–21 describes an appeal to those in Corinth who know Paul.

For Christ’s love compels us, because we are convinced that one died for all, and therefore all died.  And he died for all, that those who live should no longer live for themselves but for him who died for them and was raised again.  So from now on we regard no one from a worldly point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer.  Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them. And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.  We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors, as though God were making his appeal through us. We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.  God made him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

Christ’s love compels Paul to encourage people to be reconciled to God through faith in Christ, just as he was.

CBCS Cardiff Care

We are mission-driven

CBCS is a charitable organisation.  We were founded to provide care and service to older people in need.  We, like the Good Samaritan, ‘must not walk on the other side’.  We cannot ignore or decline to do things simply because they are unprofitable – notwithstanding that overall stewardship and wise use of resources is essential to our survival.  Our focus is people in need, regardless of their position, faith or circumstances.  It is our mission and our privilege to identify and understand the needs of people facing tough times and find real solutions to address those needs.

Our Values

Our values provide a framework that guide the way we interact with each other:

  • Christian Ethos:  First and foremost, we are a Christian organisation.  We believe that all people are created in the image of God and we have a responsibility to care for all those who are entrusted to us to the best of our God-given ability.  Our caring will reflect the attitude of service shown by the Lord Jesus Christ.  Our work is not “just a job” but an opportunity to serve others.  This does not mean that CBCS is an exclusive organisation, in fact quite the opposite.  We have and will always welcome residents, clients and staff who do not personally share the Christian hope but respect the Christian motivation of the organisation, and support the concepts expressed in our Vision, Mission and Values.  We serve people of all faiths and none.
  • Excellence:  We desire to serve to the best of our abilities.  We work to achieve a common goal – a high standard of care.
  • Respect: We treat everyone as important and worthwhile individuals with dignity and respect. We have a non-judgemental attitude and seek to understand the motivations and viewpoints of other people.
  • Care:  This is the heart of what we do.  Care includes quality of life and quality of clinical care.
  • Equity: We nurture a working and living environment which promotes diversity and acceptance based on impartiality, fairness, individuality and non-judgemental attitudes.
  • Stewardship: We care for the physical, financial and human resources of the organisation, showing wisdom and prudence in allocation of resources and taking care of the environment.

Our Strategies

First and foremost, we are a Christian organisation. We believe that all people are created in the image of God and care for those entrusted to us to the best of our God-given ability. Our caring reflects the attitude of service shown by Jesus Christ. Our work is not “just a job” but an opportunity to serve others.

We carry out our mission by providing a positive, fulfilling and Christ-filled experience of seniors living, ensuring the people we serve can ‘live their best life’.

Our strategy outlines the six key objectives upon which we are focusing:

  • Why? Because the love of Christ compels us
  • Home…for the not-so-retiring
  • Quality of life in residential care
  • Excellence in clinical care
  • A high performing organisation
  • A great place to work and volunteer
